Straw for pasteurization and mushroom casing - order now

The shredded straw is pasteurized and then used as a casing substrate for mycelium to grow.

It provides nutrients and a solid bed which you can lay additional casing substrates such as soil onto to grow more mycelium and produce larger fruits.

There is many uses for shredded straw when growing mushrooms. Another common way is to produce a log shape and have it hanging. The straw is colonized with mycelium and allowed to fruit, producing a hanging column of mushrooms.

Pictured to the left is a clump of oyster mushrooms growing off of a straw log. You can see the small chunks of straw sticking out as they are covered by the body of mycelium.

The mycelium requires a healthy substrate to provide its food or the mushrooms could expire to contamination or just not fruit to there fullest potential. The straw we use cleaned before its bagged but pasteurization is still required before using the straw for a casing substrate.
